Back at my parents’ place for a proper lawn renovation — and this one was overdue. It’s been about four seasons since the last reno, and between heat, compaction, disease, couch mite, dog damage and just life getting in the way, this lawn had completely fallen off. So today we sent it.
In Part 1 of this renovation, I take you through a full hard reset:
✔️ scalp
✔️ scarify (aggressive)
✔️ core aerate
✔️ identify low spots
✔️ prep the lawn for recovery
This wasn’t pretty, it wasn’t easy, and it definitely wasn’t gentle — but this is exactly what a real-world, suburban lawn sometimes needs to bounce back properly. We pulled four seasons of thatch out of this lawn, filled skip bins, exposed compacted soil, and set the foundation so this lawn can recover to a new cutting height and eventually be run with a cylinder mower again.
